denim is the one thing in a closet people expect to be honest, and mostly it isn't. a pair sold as 100% cotton usually carries 1 to 3% elastane for stretch, which is plastic spun through the whole garment and the reason a favorite pair goes slack by spring. every pair here is scored on its actual composition, so you can see the stretch before you buy it rather than after.
Denim starts as cotton, but most modern jeans blend in 1-3% elastane for stretch, plus polyester in the pocket bags and thread. Toxome scores each pair on its published composition, so a 100% cotton jean and a stretch jean are never shown as the same thing.
Elastane is a polyurethane-based synthetic. It does not breathe, it traps heat and moisture against the skin, and it sheds microplastics in the wash. A small percentage will not harm most people, but it is the difference between a garment that is cotton and one that is a plastic blend, so Toxome shows it rather than rounding it away.
Rigid 100% cotton, ideally organic and dyed without the heavy metals used in some indigo processes. It softens to your body instead of losing its shape, and it carries no synthetic fiber against the skin.
