Materials
92% TENCEL Lyocell / 8% ROICA V550 spandex. The brand says the TENCEL fiber is OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified and that its dyes are GOTS and OEKO-TEX certified; both are input-level claims, not a certificate on the finished garment.
What the brand names mean
Trademarks on a label describe the fiber, not your exposure. Here is what each one is and what it does not cover. None of it moves the score.
The only stretch fiber carrying a Cradle to Cradle Material Health Gold certificate, which screens the full chemical inventory for carcinogens and reproductive toxicants. That aims at the real problem with spandex on skin: leftover diisocyanates from making it, which are what cause stretch-fabric rashes.
It is still polyurethane. It still sheds plastic microfibers, and the certificate does not cover shedding. Around 35 percent breaks down in 270 days under industrial composting, and Asahi Kasei says full degradation has never been verified, so treat biodegradable stretch as marketing.
The spelled-out TENCEL name guarantees the closed-loop process: the solvent is non-toxic and over 99 percent of it is captured and reused instead of discharged. It is the cleanest regenerated fiber we score.
It covers the fiber, not the finished piece. Dyes and wrinkle-proof coatings go on after spinning, and that is where formaldehyde shows up. Look for OEKO-TEX on the garment too.
