What Certified Vegan checks

  • No animal ingredients or by-products in the product
  • No processing with animal products
  • No animal testing of ingredients or finished products, by the maker or anyone it contracts
  • Documentation on every input, including dyes, colors and processing aids
  • Cleaning between vegan and non-vegan runs on shared machinery

What Certified Vegan doesn’t cover

  • Fiber type. The standard has no rules about synthetics like polyester or acrylic.
  • Chemical safety. Dyes are checked for animal origin, and there are no limits on harmful substances.
  • Working conditions and environmental impact

How to check a Certified Vegan certificate

Vegan Action certifies individual products and lists them in a public database.

  1. Search the database. Open the Certified Vegan product list and filter by Textiles, or look for the brand.
  2. Match the product. Make sure the exact item is listed. A brand can sell certified and uncertified products side by side.

Certified Vegan questions

Does Certified Vegan check dyes?

Yes, for animal origin. Vegan Action requires documentation on the colors and dyes used in textiles, along with every other input and processing aid.

Does Certified Vegan certify a whole brand?

No. It certifies individual products, so a brand's certified items don't vouch for the rest of its range.

Does Certified Vegan say anything about skin contact?

The standard covers animal ingredients, animal processing and animal testing. It has no rules on fiber type, chemical finishes or residues.
